The Reviews
Our research team found many online reviews for The First Years miPump but they are quite mixed. Some satisfied mothers find the shields comfortable, the handle allows pumping completely hands-free, it’s very quiet, and helps in getting more milk. This pump doesn’t suck as fast as the Medela but it doesn’t have to because it provides more stimulation and is actually quite comfortable. The bag is nice and the parts are easy to put together without complications. It’s very convenient to take anywhere and the container is the same size as the Soothie brand bottles so you can pump directly into those to store in refrigerator. The unit is very compact with a discreet logo-free bag for travel
Many mothers complained that there’s no suction in this pump. It produces continual pain and doesn’t work nearly as quickly or produce as much milk. Not only does it take twice as long for less and less milk, but it is now happening with the second tube. It will just stop sucking and just vibrate instead. This pump is slow and not very powerful while the shields are difficult to see through to make sure you have a good latch. It also doesn’t have a stimulation setting so it just pulls really hard right away. Even on the strongest setting, it doesn’t pump much because the motor is incredibly weak, and it pumps so slowly.
The mixed online reviews and the low average rating for The First Years miPump require mothers to think twice before buying it. Although some users appreciate the comfort this pump provides, the main concern for most customers is its motor that lacks power to pump the desired suction strength, and our team thinks that it’s the fatal flaw of this breast pump.
